Split Arrows Quilt

Split Arrows is a quilt I made about ten months ago for a friend's new baby.

I looked high and low for a chevron or herringbone quilt that would work well with the medium scale print fabrics I had chosen to match her nursery. I also didn't want to fuss over matching up angled seams. I couldn't find anything like what I envisioned in my head! The closest I came was a design on a tissue box! (You probably have one in your home right now! I think they only get new designs once a decade!)

Fast forward ten months and now the pattern is available!

The main fabrics are Birch Fabrics organic cotton from the line Serengeti. They were amazing to work with!

The sashing, back, and binding fabrics were purchased at Jo-Ann's to coordinate with the colors in the Birch Fabrics.

I quilted it using my walking foot on my Bernina Record 930. I echoed the zig zag lines created by the chevron pattern. Each line is randomly spaced from the next.

Split Arrows is great for using medium scale or directional prints. The pattern is for advanced beginners and looks great in any size. The pattern includes measurements and directions for three sizes: baby, throw, and twin.

  1. This is a beautiful quilt and pattern! I've got a bundle of larger-sized printed fabrics that I may use for this. Keeping it in mind! I love that you machine-quilted this using random spacing.
