52 Charity Quilts in 52 Weeks - May

Thursday, May 31, 2018

I was able to squeeze just a bit of time this month to work on my 52 charity quilts. I added three more tops to the pile!

This month has been another busy one (and next month is already packed too!), but I've been very mindful to start clearing my schedule after that.

I'm hopeful that I will be able to spend more time working on my 52 charity quilts goal in the second half of the year. (You can read more about my goal on this post.)

These were all stitched up with Aurifil 50wt in Stone #2324 for the top thread. However, I used up several different bobbins with various colors of 50wt Aurifil too.

The one in the above photo is one row shorter than the rest. When attempting to arrange the fabrics "randomly," I ended up with EVERY piece in the final row from the exact same fabric. Instead of rearranging and trying to figure it out, I just decided to make this one a bit smaller. No one will notice, right??

So far this year, my charity quilt count is:

1 finished cat quilt for Emma's Plan
3 finished Debbie Mumm quilts
8 Debbie Mumm quilt tops

So I have 11/52 (or about 21%) of the Debbie Mumm quilts done or in progress, but 42% of the year has passed. I'm a bit behind where I'd love to be, but there are still plenty of days left in the year to sew! The year's not over until it's over!

  2. Well, I didn't notice that the one was shorter, so no, it won't make a difference. This is such a great goal, Laura. You'll get caught up!

    1. Thanks, Wendy! I'm confident I'll be caught up in a couple months. I've only had one day a month for the past few months to work on it, but I *should* be able to spend a week or more on it in July. Or at least by December! Ha!

  3. Cute colors on those quilts. You're doing great, Laura. Once that longarm lands, you'll be flying. Keep stitching away. And remember it's a goal, not a requirement. I didn't notice one was shorter, either.

    1. It is a bit hard for me to work with the "vintage" fabrics. The goal keeps me going back when my quilty ADD wants me to move on. I'm confident I'll have more time to work on the project in July - or at least by December!

  4. You have had a lot of fun opportunities pop up, and I hope that you still feel like you can say "yes" to some and meet your goal. :)

  6. Some progress is better than none! I am confident you'll get there before the year is out.
