Diamond Star Quilts is the newest book by Barbara Cline. (Available on Amazon and at C&T Publishing.) If you don't know Barbara, she has authored SIX quilt books and is an a.m.a.z.i.n.g. quilter! She has a thing for star quilts, so this book is a great addition to her resume. It is such an honor to be included in this blog hop!

All 12 quilt patterns from the Diamond Star Quilts book by Barbara Cline

I have made a few lone star quilts before (here, here, here, and here), but I was blown away by the creativity and stunning designs when I got the book!

The book includes patterns for eleven lone star style quilts, AND has a bonus pattern for a quilt to make with kids! As a mom of three and the local 4-H quilting leader, I LOVE that Barbara included a pattern for kids in the book!

My favorite star in the book is the Echo Star with Pinwheel (the green one pictured in the top right of the photo above), but I also had my eye on the Sampler Quilt. I decided to start small and test the waters with one 18" block from the Sampler Quilt.

The block uses three colors plus a background color. I immediately grabbed my Neon Neppy chambray fabric scraps to see if I had enough - and I did! (I used the fabrics for this quilt.)

Chambray fabrics for a star quilt

I tested a few different solids to use as the background. I really liked pastel pink and even navy blue, but decided to use the more bold Kona Cerise.

The instructions in the book are easy to follow and have well-illustrated diagrams too.

The block came together quickly and easily! (I didn't even have to use Jack the ripper!)

Making a star quilt

After sewing the last seam, I couldn't help but smile! I LOVED it!

The chambray adds such a cool texture and look!

Awhile back, a friend gave me a box of fabrics she no longer wanted. Included was a piece of blue chambray that was exactly the right size for the back of this mini quilt!

Pin basting a star quilt

I pin basted the top and backing with Hobbs cotton batting and switched my machine to the walking foot.

Cross-hatch quilting with a walking foot

Using my walking foot guide on it's smallest width, I quilted straight lines in a diagonal cross-hatch design using 50wt Aurifil #2605 Grey. The lines are 3/4" apart.

A quick victory lap to sew the binding on, and it was done! (Tutorial here.)

I even remembered to sew one of my new labels from EverEmblem into the binding! (Use the code SLICEOFPI at checkout on their website to save 10% on your total purchase this month! I really love how my satin ones turned out!)

I made the entire mini quilt start to finish in one evening, and now I'm itching to try another one from the book!

You can get the Diamond Star Quilts book on Amazon and at C&T Publishing.
