'Tis the season to start planning for Christmas! This month's Quilt Block Mania theme is Winter Celebrations! Dozens of designers are sharing FREE quilt block patterns for you to sew!

I created a FREE pattern for a Christmas wreath! Have you seen those fun and colorful wreaths made from Christmas ball ornaments?? This is exactly the inspiration behind this quilty version!

The Christmas wreath block uses raw-edge applique, and is made very quickly with the help of an AccuQuilt Circles die if you have one!

The Christmas wreath block would be a great addition to any Christmas themed quilt, though wouldn't a Christmas quilt of blocks just made with circles be really fun?!? I'm going to have to think on that one, because I like how it looks in my mind! Or maybe just quilt this one up and hang a quilted wreath on your front door!

For my sample block, I picked my favorite Christmas palette! Red, lime green, turquoise, and hot pink! (I used that same color combo on this quilt!)

My two-year-old couldn't resist helping me cut out the circles!

It took him less than five minutes to have enough circles cut!

I used a lid to a round box that I have, but a dinner plate would be just as good! I traced it with my favorite air erasable pen. The marks go away after just an hour or so!

After putting all the circles on, I used matching Aurifil 50wt thread to stitch them down. It was very fast to do with my free-motion foot!

To applique the bow, I used a thread darker than my fabric pieces so that the color would help outline the pieces and make them show up a bit better.

Here's a view of the back after I got all the pieces stitched down!

I had a lot of fun making this one! It really helps to sew with your favorite colors!
