My First Quilt Journal

Do you keep a record of the quilts you make? A quilt journal?

A good friend recommended one to me when I just started quilting. I loved the idea! But I am not a scrapbooker. At. All. So for years I've had a blank scrapbook, a notebook full of notes, and file folders with fabric scraps from each quilt I've made. I had big dreams of a scrapbook full of quilt photos, selvages, drawings, and other mementos, but I kept putting off making it.

Then one day I discovered that Kathy Schwartz of Tamarack Shack has her blog printed as a book at the end of each year. I had an aha moment!

I was able to write a blog post for every quilt I've made, dating back to 2010, and backdate it so it appeared on my blog in chronological order! I was able to write the story for each quilt and add photos. (Look back at all the quilts I've made here.)

Then at the beginning of the year, I had my blog printed into a book using Blog2Print. I was able to get every post from 2010 to the end of 2016 in it! I love the quality of the book and pages! It's definitely something that will last for years and be an heirloom.

Now I'm going to add some handwritten notes in the margins and tape in the fabric scraps, selvages, receipts, and sketches that I've been saving!

If you're interested in having your own blog printed as a book, be sure to sign up for the email list on the Blog2Print website. They send coupon codes regularly. There are quite a few options to choose from when making your book. I chose a hardback book. You can pick and choose which posts to include. I chose to have my pictures printed out of line with the text in order to save pages. However, I did choose to start each post on a new page. This allowed for some space at the end of the previous post for adding in notes and mementos. (I also know there's a few options for printing your Instagram or Facebook posts if that's how you record your makes.)

I am so excited about my quilt journal now! I will easily be able to keep up with all the quilts I make!
