If you're new here, hello! I'm Laura! I design quilt patterns, and I'm a self-proclaimed deal hunter! Be sure to join the popular Quilting & Sewing Deals Facebook group where I post sales, deals, and coupon codes from all around the web!
Catch & Release is Mathew's third fabric collection for Art Gallery Fabrics. I have been creating with Mathew's fabrics since his very first collection!
My Moonrise quilt featured his Loved to Pieces collection and was displayed in his Spring 2018 Quilt Market Booth (blog post here and pattern here).
Then my Finial quilt was featured in the lookbook for his Aura collection (blog post here and pattern here).
So when Mathew put out a call for makers on Instagram to create something with his new Catch & Release fabric, I jumped up and down shouting, "Me! Me! Me!"
Catch & Release is a lake-themed collection in shades of blue and aqua. These are a few of my favorite things!!
See!? My three favorite shades of Aurifil 50wt (2024, 1148, and 2735) are a perfect match!! (PS. I'm giving these three spools away over on Instagram! Be sure to hop over there to enter to win!)
The first two quilts I made with Mathew's fabrics included bias tape applique, so I knew the only choice was to use bias tape applique for this collection too!
I used the newly released "Heart of the Ocean" Pure solid blue by Art Gallery Fabrics for the bias tape and binding.
And the backing is "Mirage Blue" - the most perfect shade of aqua blue. My absolute favorite color!
The quilt also features scalloped top and bottom edges. It's a really fun feature that looks much harder than it is! As long as you use bias binding strips, scalloped edges are easy to do!
The quilt is assembled using a quilt-as-you-go method and has no curved piecing whatsoever, making it very quick and easy - my favorite kind of quilt!
High Tide is the perfect pattern for showcasing print fabrics that you love, but just can't bring yourself to cutting up. (Come on, I know I'm not the only one who is hoarding a few fabrics!) I absolutely love how the pattern allows the gorgeous fabrics to be the star of the show.
In addition to the Catch & Release fabrics and the Pure solids fabrics, I also used Warm & Natural batting and Aurifil 50wt thread #2783 Medium Delft Blue. I made the entire quilt on my Juki with my walking foot.
The pattern includes five sizes including table runner, baby/lap, throw, twin, and queen. (This quilt is the throw size.)
The description on the pattern is: "High Tide is the perfect pattern for showcasing your favorite print fabrics! Medium scale and directional prints are great choices to use in this advanced beginner pattern. The quilt uses bias tape applique and no curved piecing! The quilt is made using the quilt-as-you-go method and includes directions for five sizes from table runner to queen."
High Tide is my 18th quilt pattern! (See all my patterns in my Etsy shop.)
Be sure to follow Mister Domestic on Instagram so you don't miss all the amazing things that have been made for the Catch & Release party! (Seriously, the sneak peeks I've seen are SO good!!) There will be giveaways at the end of each week too!
Hop over and pick up your copy of the High Tide pattern (available as a paper pattern too!). I can't wait to see what you create!

ReplyDeleteI love the way each of the quilts you made from his fabrics have curves!! One of these days will you please show us how you do that? I don't know how to QAYG (I have a longarm and never saw the "need"), so it would be cool to learn how to do the curves without doing curves!!
