If you're new here, hello! I'm Laura! I design quilt patterns, and I'm a self-proclaimed deal hunter! Be sure to join the popular Quilting & Sewing Deals Facebook group where I post sales, deals, and coupon codes from all around the web!
The Stay at Home quilt block is a simple house block with the addition of a heart inside and extra sashing around the house. To me, this illustrates the feeling of love and connection within our family during this time, and also the physical separation from others.
I plan to make one quilt block for every day that our community is under a mandated stay-at-home order (shelter in place). I'd like to think I'll only have enough blocks for a table runner, but the realist in me knows it will likely be 30 or more days, which will make a great throw quilt. (We're already on day 7!)
Another great idea is to make one block to use as a quilt label on the back of any quilt you make during this time! You could also make as many blocks as you want to make a wall hanging or table runner or quilt just to represent this historic time, but not for keeping track of the number of days. Let me know how you plan to use the blocks!
The quilt block works great with fat quarters, but can also be used with scraps from your stash! Dig out your favorite fat quarter bundle or use fabrics that say "home" to you!
Make just one block for a wall hanging to remember this time, or make just a few for a table runner. Areas that stay at home for a longer time might be making bed sized quilts! Each block measures 8" x 10" finished, so 36 blocks would make a 48" x 60" throw quilt. 99 blocks would make a 88" x 90" queen.
Please post your blocks on social media! Use the #stayathomequilt and tag @sliceofpiquilts! I will be posting my own blocks as I make them on Facebook and Instagram!
