Do you remember the 4-H quilt I made a few months ago? Well, JoAnn and 4-H asked if I would make a wall hanging project too!
I love 4-H. My mom was in 4-H, I was in 4-H, and now my own kids are in 4-H too. I'm even our county's quilting leader and teach almost two dozen kids how to make a quilt every year!

If you're new here, hello! I'm Laura! I design quilt patterns, and I'm a self-proclaimed deal hunter! Be sure to join the popular Quilting & Sewing Deals Facebook group where I post sales, deals, and coupon codes from all around the web!
I recorded every step of the process in both photo form to show you here on the blog, but also in video form to make an Instagram reel and TikTok video! Be sure to check those out too!
I started with solid Kona fabrics in a couple shades of green, pressed Heat-N-Bond Lite to the back, and cut the JoAnn and 4-H logos using my Cricut Maker.
I also sewed two green pieces together, pressed fusible to the back, then hand cut a heart with the seam down to the middle. Then I pressed all of the pieces to a solid white fabric with my Oliso mini iron.
Next, I started adding borders of the 4-H fabrics I got from JoAnn!
I did sew around each letter and shape with matching Aurifil 50wt thread. I stitched about 1/8" in from the raw edge using a straight stitch.
Then I layered the top, Warm & White batting, and backing fabric, pin basted the layers together, then used my walking foot to quilt diagonal lines in both directions for the quilting. I used the edge of my foot for the spacing, which made the lines about 1/2" apart.
I have been doing great remembering to sew in my satin quilt labels when machine sewing on the binding lately!
This was a fun project that got me to use many different tools in my sewing studio!
I have helped more than a dozen kids finish their quilts for our county fair, and my own boys are finishing up all their projects tonight.
The fair starts tomorrow, and I'm so excited to celebrate all the hard work the kids have done!
Be sure to watch the Instagram reel or TikTok for how this wall hanging came together!
And now link up your own finish! What have you made lately? You can link up a blog post, Facebook photo, or Instagram post! Just use a web browser to copy the URL, then use that to link up! I'd love to see what you've made!

Laura, how awesome is it that you get to teach all those children to quilt! I love that EVEN MORE than I love your JoAnn/4-H project (although that came out great -- I love how your applique 4-H clover ties in so nicely with the border print).
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the fair, it's something I look forward to every year!
