A Christmas Quilt

During the fall 2011 Southern Nevada quilt shop hop, I purchased a charm pack of "Flurry" by Kate Spain for Moda from the Christmas Goose quilt shop in Las Vegas, NV. I bought the white on white fabric from the Fabric Boutique (another store in Vegas) at the same time (that shop closed around 2014). The backing and binding fabric is from Jo-Ann's.

I sewed the quilt top during Christmas break in 2011. I laid the squares out on the dining room table in the order I liked. I would take one row of the squares upstairs to my sewing machine, sew them together, then take them back downstairs to get the next row. It was exercise and sewing in one!

I made one wrong cut and didn't have enough fabric for the last white corner square. I had to use the largest piece I had and cut the triangle I needed.

The quilt top sat unfinished for a long while - even while we moved cross country!

After moving to Missouri, my grandmother decided to sell her vintage Bernina (one model off from my Bernina 930 Record). Before selling, she gave me the darning foot that she had for her machine! It was a perfect fit! I immediately stitched up a thank you note! This was a game changer!

I knew this was exactly what my Christmas quilt needed! I printed a few snowflakes off the internet and cut them out. Then I used my disappearing ink pen to trace them onto the quilt top and quilted over the drawn lines. I was ecstatic with how it turned out!

I used the same print for binding as the backing.

The quilt finished about 38" x 44" - a good size for a lap quilt. I absolutely love this quilt! I keep it displayed in our home year-round.

  1. The quilt looks amazing and showcases all the hard work you put into it! My grandmother made me a quilt like this one to give to my children, i am very tempted to sleep in it right now.
