Right before we moved at the end of the summer, I had two quilt deadlines to meet. One was the Glowing Lone Star quilt, and the second was this Tumbling Blocks quilt - both for Craftsy. And I can finally share this one with you!
This quilt started way back in February! After the pattern was written, I waited to receive the fabrics - which arrived in late June.
The fabrics are from Craftsy's Boundless Collage collection.
Real life was all around while sewing this one up! We were adding a half bathroom and putting new tile in our kitchen and dining room to prepare to sell our house, we were packing all our belongings into boxes, the kids were playing summer t-ball, and I bought a longarm! Looking through my camera roll for pictures for this blog post revealed just how much was going on at once!
You win some...
...you lose some.
After a few practice quilts on my new-to-me longarm (which I'm now affectionately calling Kramer), I loaded the Tumbling Blocks quilt with Warm & Natural batting. I chose Aurifil 50wt thread #6731 Tiramisu for the quilting. I considered custom quilting within the blocks, but ultimately decided an all-over swirl design would be better for this one. (And help me gain longarm confidence! This was my first quilt on my longarm!)
I did not use a pantograph or any type of guide for the swirls. I just quilted them free-hand and tried to keep them all about the same size - which takes concentration!
After quilting, I machine stitched the binding on.
The finished quilt has both a modern and traditional feel to it.
Once done, I packed it up to mail to Craftsy. (Can you spot it on the top of this stack of moving boxes??)
I love the photos Craftsy took of the quilt!
This was my 32nd quilt finish for the year back in July. And I just finished quilt number 64 for the year yesterday!
The Tumbling Blocks quilt kit is available now on Craftsy. Please let me know if you make one! I'd love to cheer you on while sewing!

ReplyDeleteOkay, you really do love to work under pressure!! I love the colors and the way the top came together. I have wins and losses too but I've decided the time is too short to worry about it. Your quilting is wonderful especially for the first time on the longarm. Congratulations on another commercial venture. Hope the little one is enjoying the winter days.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilting, Laura! You are good at getting things done!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, you freehanded that beautifully! 64 quilts in one year. I'm in awe of you! With all that other stuff going on, too. Those are beautiful colors and Craftsy should be very happy with the job you did of representing them.
ReplyDeleteYour swirls look great. I haven't tried tumbling blocks yet.

ReplyDeleteI love this and the colors are amazing. How do you decide on colors/blocks placements? That's what I struggle with.
