Every day for the 12 days leading up to Christmas, I'm sharing a tutorial for how to make a fabric ornament!

For this ornament, you'll need fabric scraps that are about 10" long. That means it would be great for using a leftover layer cake square or two! You'll also need a ring. I'm using a wooden ring because I had it on hand, but you can actually make this using a mason jar ring! Isn't that  clever?!

First, cut your fabric into 1/2" x 10" strips. Mine were a little longer, but I trimmed them later on. I used two colors of fabric and needed 24 strips to go around my ring. You might need a few more if your ring is larger than mine.

This is another ornament great for making with kids, as there is no ironing or gluing. You just tie the fabric strips around the ring.

For mine, I folded one strip in half as shown.

Then I put the fold into the center of the ring.

Using one hand, I opened the fold to create a loop.

Then I used my other hand to tuck the ends of the strip through the loop.

Then I just pulled on the ends of the strip until it was tight around the ring.

That's it! Then just repeat!

I alternated my two colors.

And I pushed all the fabrics together as tightly as I could after every few strips.

My strips seemed a little too long when I made mine, so I trimmed them so they were about 2" or 2 1/2" out from the ring.

The last step is to add a ribbon or twine hanger! I just looped mine around the ring and tied a knot in the end.

It really reminds me of the fun fabric scrap wreath I made for my front door earlier this year! Check out that tutorial HERE!
