If you're new here, hello! I'm Laura! I design quilt patterns, and I'm a self-proclaimed deal hunter! Be sure to join the popular Quilting & Sewing Deals Facebook group where I post sales, deals, and coupon codes from all around the web!
I'm celebrating this year's National Sew a Jelly Roll Day with Fat Quarter Shop! They were so generous to send me a jelly roll of the new Firefly collection by Sarah Watts for Ruby Star Society, and a few coordinating fabrics too. (And there's a quick giveaway for a jelly roll of your choice over on my Instagram too!)
Everything about this bundle is to drool over! The metallic stars on the black, the hot pink solid, all those turquoise and pinks in the jelly roll....swoon!
I chose the FREE pattern called "Slice" from Fat Quarter Shop (get it HERE!). One jelly roll can actually make TWO lap-sized or baby-sized quilts!!
The quilt top comes together super fast (in just a few hours!). Then I loaded it on the longarm with the metallic stars fabric for the back and Warm & White batting. (I really wanted to use black batting for this one, but I'm out!) I did a quick loop meander on it - inspired by the "Firefly" collection name!
The final touch was that hot pink fabric for the binding! It's actually called Berrylicious by Moda. I always machine stitch my bindings! (Tutorial HERE!)
It's like the perfect lipstick for the quilt! Yes, I sewed one of my satin quilt labels into the binding too!
I took the quilt with me on our vacation a few weeks ago to Minnesota, and found the coolest yellow flowers for a photo spot!
The flowers were almost like little yellow balls. Kinda like fireflies!
However, be forewarned. As soon as I finished taking the photos, I had a huge allergy attack! Lol! Guess the flowers didn't like me as much as I liked them!
Have you ever made a jelly roll quilt? Have you ever made a jelly roll quilt on National Sew a Jelly Roll Day?? This could be your year!!
Now it's your turn! Show us what you've finished recently by linking up a blog post, Facebook post, or Instagram post! Then take a minute to visit a few others and congratulate them on their finish too!

Wow, what a great jelly roll quilt, Laura!!! Fuchsia is my favorite color--love the lipstick binding!!! Sorry about those yellow wild flowers! But they sure made a great photo!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the allergy attack but you did get a great photo shoot out of it! Beautiful use of those fabrics, and I especially like the "zing" of the teal quilting thread against the dark fabrics!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilts. I use mostly jelly rolls, unfortunately I am low on funds this month. Beautiful work. Love them!
ReplyDeleteWho knew there was a National Jelly Roll Day. You are right, that jelly roll is so much fun with its adorable novelty fabrics. Pretty sure the yellow flowers in the photoshoot are goldenrod. Used to pick it for my mother and immediately sent it out of the house since it started a hay fever attack.
