Lysa Flower designed this Drivin' Down 9 fabric last year, and I made a Suitcases quilt with it (remember this one??). I had some scraps left over, so decided to make a MINI Exploding Heart quilt with them!

I decided to use navy for the background fabric as it contrasted well with all the bright prints.
I cut all the pieces with my AccuQuilt and used the 2" finished quarter square triangle die. This usually goes very fast, but since I was using scraps, it was a bit of a puzzle to see how many triangles I could get from each piece to make sure I had enough!
The MINI size Exploding Heart goes together just like the larger one. It has the exact same number of pieces and the exact same number of seams. The blocks are just smaller!
It takes me just about 8 hours total to sew all the blocks for the whole quilt.
That final layout gets me every time! Navy was definitely the right choice for this one!
I loaded the quilt on my longarm and used light pink thread for the quilting. It shows up well on the background, but blends in to all of the colorful prints of the heart.
I use a meander stitch to quilt almost all of my quilts. It's the fastest design I can do!
After quilting, I chose a lime green solid fabric for the binding. It makes a great frame around the whole quilt!
The finished quilt is 36" square, which is perfect for a wall-hanging!
If you like to make large quilts, you can use the original Exploding Heart Quilt that makes a 72" x 72" size.
Or you can choose the MINI Exploding Heart quilt pattern to make this smaller size!
This is the second of three MINI Exploding Heart quilts I've made. (See another one HERE.) And I've made the original size more than a dozen times!
Which size of quilts do you prefer making?? I tend to make throw size and smaller the most!
And this size is easier to pack when I travel to do trunk shows!
Now it's your turn! I'm hosting TGIFF this week, so link up your most recent finish! You can link to a blog post, Facebook post, or Instagram post!
