Last week, I shared the original Besties quilt (see that post here), and this week, I'm sharing my favorite version I've made!

I started this one with some 5" square precuts for the beads. Yardage would have worked just as well, but I had these in my stash!
It's all raw-edge applique! I use Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 because I keep a bolt of it on hand, but other sewable fusibles would work just as well.
You just press the fabric to the fusible, trace the letter and bead shapes from the pattern, cut them out with scissors, then place them onto the background fabric. Once they're arranged how you like, you press it. Then I quilted it!
Of course I sewed one of my labels into the binding during the victory lap too! (Binding tutorial here.)
For this version, I did not stitch at all on the beads and letters. I know they might peel up some over time, but I didn't want to change my thread a hundred times for each of the colors. Lazy? Smart? Maybe a bit of both?
If I planned to wash this quilt a lot, then yes, I would definitely go back and stitch around each shape. I'd just do a straight stitch about an 1/8" in from the edge in a matching thread color.
In the first Besties quilt that I made, I just continued the quilting design over all the shapes to sew them down. So if the edges peel up, the whole shape won't fall off.
The colors and the affirmation words make this one my favorite! The pattern includes all the letters, so you can make whatever words on your friendship bracelets you like!
Such a fun quilt for a tween, teen, Swiftie, or someone who needs some encouragement! What words would you put on your Besties quilt?
