I Wish You a Merry QAL - Block 11

Today's the day! It's time for Block 11 of the "I Wish You a Merry Quilt-A-Long!"

North star quilt block for the I Wish You a Merry QAL

The "North Star" block was designed by Kathleen at Kathleen McMusing. You can find the tutorial and pattern on her blog here.

This was a fun block for my limited color palette. Ultimately, I went with my absolute favorite color combo ever - red, aqua/teal, and white. The actual fabrics are Kona Lipstick, Kona Breakers, and Moda Bella 98 White. (I used Aurifil 50wt Stone #2324 for all the piecing. It's a great neutral - and I have a whole cone of it!)

As usual, I kept all the pieces organized on my cutting mat as I completed each step in the pattern.

I used the paper piecing option in the pattern. I love that there are multiple ways to complete most things in quilting - no right or wrong, we just choose what we like to do the most!

For the center block, I did not draw the diagonal lines on the back of the squares. I just used my laser! (See my post about adding a laser to any sewing machine here.)

The block finished at 12 1/2" square - no need to trim!

Just one more block to go! I'm so excited for how it's coming together! The limited color palette is definitely what ties it all together for me!

  3. What a great Christmas project. LUV all the blocks! The star is especially fun with the thin lines of "piping".
