The Pumpkin Spice collection is a mix of leaves, pumpkins, and pears, and all the prints have a nice medium tone to them.
I found two fabrics in my stash that really coordinated well with the fabrics. One was a large yardage piece of Parchment by Island Batik, and the other was Kona Wine.
I didn't have much of the Wine fabric, so I headed to Pinterest to try and find a pattern that didn't require any background fabric, but still used an accent color. Which led me straight to the Starry Night pattern by SweetJane.
I cut the Pumpkin Spice yardage into squares and created a giant Sudoku puzzle on the floor in order to get a "random" arrangement of the fabrics.
As soon as I was happy with the layout, I quickly stacked the squares into rows and used my numbered pins to keep them in order. With three boys running around the house, the floor is a safe spot for about negative 10 seconds!
I pieced the whole top in one evening - and matched my not-pumpkin-spice-flavored drink with the fabric too!
The Parchment Island Batik fabric was *just* shy of being wide enough for the backing fabric, so I cut an extra piece from all the prints and pieced them into the one long row and added that into the back. (There is a picture a few photos down.)
Then I loaded it onto my longarm with Warm & Natural batting (using Red Snappers).
I already had Aurifil 50wt #2325 Linen on the longarm from the previous quilt, and it was the perfect light tan for this quilt too!
I free-motioned a medium-sized meander over the quilt top. It's the fastest thing I know how to quilt, and I really love how it looks.
After trimming off the extra batting and backing fabric, I machine sewed on the binding. (Tutorial here.) I even remembered to add one of my new EverEmblem tags! This view of the back shows off the pieced squares I added to widen the backing fabric.
The quilt already has a great crinkle texture from the quilting, so I know a quick wash will really make this one a favorite this fall!
Doesn't the quilt just beg for a warm cup of apple cider or wassail??
The finished quilt measures 44" x 52", which is a great lap/throw quilt in our house!
I haven't updated the quilt count on my website for awhile (adding that to the to-do list!), but this is my 16th quilt finish for 2020 and my 376th quilt finish since I made my first quilt in 2010!
I'm excited to have a new quilt to use this fall as we make memories at pumpkin patches and go on hay rides with our boys!
