Chevron Baby Quilt

Saturday, August 22, 2015

When my childhood friend, Kendra, announced she was pregnant, I knew I wanted to make her a quilt. I messaged her sister, Kayla, for nursery colors/theme, and she sent me a couple pictures of the nursery. They were going with an “arrows” theme.

When visiting our friends Jeremy and Laura in Omaha, Nebraska, Laura and I visited several quilt shops. At The Modern Quilter, I purchased a fat quarter bundle of Serengeti by Birch Fabrics. It was $4 per fat quarter – the same as $16 a yard! The most expensive fabric I have ever bought!

I bought some coordinating tan fabric, the backing, and the binding fabric at JoAnn’s in Springfield, Missouri with my mom a few weeks later.

I looked at quilt shops, Pinterest, Instagram, and Google for an arrow quilt that would suit the fabric, but could not find one that I loved. The closest design that I liked was on a Kleenex box in our house! So I designed my own quilt!

I quilted it using the walking foot on my Bernina 930 Record. I used randomly spaced zig zag lines to mimic the angles in the quilt top.

I wrapped the quilt top up in a gift bag and took it to Kendra’s mom to give to Kendra at an upcoming baby shower.

After posting on Instagram, many people inquired about a pattern, so I decided to write one! The pattern is now available on Etsy (paper pattern and digital pattern)!
