A Split Arrows Baby Quilt

A few months ago, I connected with Nancy Archer on Instagram. She designs beautiful fabrics for QT Fabrics, and she asked me to make a quilt with her newest Garden Journal collection! After receiving the fabrics, I knew my Split Arrows pattern would be perfect for showing off the bright colors and designs!

I had several yards of solid Kona Bright Periwinkle fabric in my stash, and although it doesn't seem to match in the photos, it looked great with the fabrics in real life!

During a bit of serendipity, I won a 2-yard Cuddle Cut of the softest purple minky fabric from Shannon Fabrics during the midst of our area's stay-at-home order. The minky found a home in my sewing room next to the bundle of Garden Journal fabrics, and it was clear they were meant to be together in the quilt!

I also had a cone of the perfect 50wt Aurifil - #2510 Light Lilac. I used the same thread for all the piecing and quilting.

I cut all the pieces out Sunday night, and had the baby-sized top done after two evenings of sewing.

The first Split Arrows quilt I made had zig zag lines for the quilting, and I wanted to repeat that for this one.

That meant the quilting would need to be done with my walking foot on my domestic machine, so I sandwiched the quilt on the dining room table.

I used my favorite green tape to hold the Cuddle in place on the table, letting it drape off two sides. I am careful not to stretch the minky, just letting the tape hold it in place, but not too taut. Then a laid a piece of Warm & Natural batting on top, smoothing out the wrinkles.

I use curved safety pins for basting as spray baste and I don't get along well.

I followed the sashing strips to quilt, but spaced the lines apart randomly. Some are 2" apart, others 4". I didn't measure or follow the quilt design for that.

A quick victory lap to machine sew on the binding, and the quilt was done!

I am SO pleased with how this one turned out! (And I have enough scraps to make something else!)

The fabrics are so bright and cheerful!

And it's SO soft and cuddly!

The batting and Cuddle give the quilt such a wonderful weight.

I gave my first Split Arrows quilt away as a gift, so this one will stay with us so I can use it for trunk shows. (Find the pattern in my Etsy shop!)

Well, in-between couch snuggles!

It felt great to remake one of my own patterns and get some sewing time in this week!
