I set a goal at the beginning of the year to make 52 quilts for charity throughout the year. You can read more about my plan on this post. I recap my sewing progress on the last day of each month and host a linky party where you can link up any charity sewing you've done too!
This box is home to all the remaining quilt top pieces just waiting to be stitched together. There is fabric for 31 more quilt tops in this little box!!
I already have them grouped by like fabrics and each stack contains just enough for one quilt top. But I still need to organize each one into a pleasing pattern before I can sew them up.
I've been using the floor for that task, but I prefer using my
Once I'm happy with the layout, I pick the pieces up in order, back into one stack.
I know each row contains six pieces, so I just count as I sew them together to know where a new row starts. I use 50wt Aurifil in #2324 Stone for all the piecing. It's a great tan neutral color that blends with all the Debbie Mumm fabrics.
I've gotten pretty speedy sewing these tops together. I timed myself this month, and one took me 17 minutes from fabric stack to quilt top.
So a few 17-minute sewing sessions resulted in 10 quilt tops this month!
Another really exciting development this month is that I purchased two bolts of extra-wide backing fabric so I can quickly quilt these up on my longarm!
I have one-yard cuts of Debbie Mumm fabric ready to be fabric backs, but after getting my longarm, I know using the extra-wide backing will be so much quicker. So now I can use the one-yard cuts to make even more charity quilts!!
So far, my charity quilt count for the year looks like this:
1 finished cat quilt for Emma's Plan
3 finished teenager quilts for foster kids
11 finished Debbie Mumm charity quilts (3 here, 5 here, and 3 here)
10 Debbie Mumm quilt tops ready to be quilted
52 still seems far away, but I'm SO excited to see what December brings!

Wow, 17 minutes from pieces to a quilt top is awesome. I'm excited to see what you are able to accomplish in December. No matter what, this is an awesome idea and I hope it inspired many others to sew for charity, too.
