Rockslide

Rockslide is the second of three new patterns I'm releasing in January/February. (The first is Speak Love - and the third is Sliced.)

Rockslide quilt pattern by Slice of Pi Quilts
I originally made Rockslide in a twin size using a layer cake of Fresh Bloom by Michele D'Amore for Contempo Fabrics. I quilted it on my mom's Gammill longarm. I really loved the design, but couldn't stop thinking about what it would look like in Alison Glass fabrics.

I am excited to share with you my newest quilt pattern - Speak Love!

Speak Love has been in the works for months! I've actually made *almost* five quilts in the making of the pattern.

Baby Blooms

It's time for the second challenge for Project Quilting! This week's quilt is the largest one I've done for a Project Quilting challenge!

Carolina Lily Project Quilting Challenge Quilt

This week the challenge prompt was "Carolina Lily." The Carolina Lily is a beautiful flower similar to a tiger lily, and it is also a traditional quilt block with flowers and stems.

My First Quilt Journal

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Do you keep a record of the quilts you make? A quilt journal?

A good friend recommended one to me when I just started quilting. I loved the idea! But I am not a scrapbooker. At. All. So for years I've had a blank scrapbook, a notebook full of notes, and file folders with fabric scraps from each quilt I've made. I had big dreams of a scrapbook full of quilt photos, selvages, drawings, and other mementos, but I kept putting off making it.

Blog2Print Blog Book as Quilt Journal

Then one day I discovered that Kathy Schwartz of Tamarack Shack has her blog printed as a book at the end of each year. I had an aha moment!

A Game of Checkers

Friday, January 6, 2017

It's the first week of the new year, so that means it's time for a new season of Project Quilting! You haven't heard of Project Quilting? Well, it's kind of like Project Runway...but for quilting!

Kim Lapacek of Persimon Dreams is the mastermind behind the fun challenge. How it works: a theme is posted on Sunday (there will be six challenges), you have one week to make a quilt (or other sewing item), then there's a one-week voting period - and prizes! It's just like Project Runway! But you do have a week to make something. Well, and it's not on tv. And Tim Gunn doesn't critique your project half-way through. (But that would be awesome!)

Project Quilting season 8 challenge 1 "Eight is Great"

This is the eighth season of Project Quilting. To celebrate, the theme for the first challenge is "Eight is Great!" (You can join in at any time! You can pick and choose the challenges you want to do. Do one or do them all! It's a great way to try out new ideas and techniques!)

2016 in Quilts

Monday, January 2, 2017

At the start of a new year, I like to look back and see what I accomplished during the last year. Looking back always helps me look forward. So here is a look at 2016 by the numbers.

38 quilts! I more than doubled my "16 quilts in 2016" goal! (Quilts included 2 queen sized, 1 twin, 10 throw sized, 2 baby quilts, 20 mini quilts, and 3 mini mini quilts.) Links to them all from the Quilt Finishes page.
