Creating for Kids with Missouri Star!

Thursday, August 12, 2021

Grab your popcorn and sewing machines! It's time for a watch party!

Laura of Slice of Pi Quilts with Jenny of Missouri Star Quilt Co. iron

I've been doing some super secret work over the past couple months, and I'm SO excited to share it with you today!! I've teamed up with Missouri Star Quilt Co. to make the Creating for Kids YouTube series!

Creating for Kids - nursery series videos with Missouri Star Quilt Co.

The first set of six videos launched today, and they're all about sewing projects for the nursery!

Creating for Kids - nursery series videos with Missouri Star Quilt Co.

In the videos, I show how to make a soft book, fitted crib sheet, cuffed nesting bins, fabric letters, an eight pocket tote bag, and a quilt-as-you-go quilt! The projects are great for those of us who have been sewing for awhile, but I am hopeful that they will be easy enough for anyone to make - even if they've never sewn at all!

Creating for Kids - nursery series videos with Missouri Star Quilt Co.

The project has been so much fun, and I have learned a LOT!

Creating for Kids video set at Missouri Star Quilt Co.

In my business, I wear all the hats. But at Missouri Star, they have teams of people to help do everything! It was amazing to watch everyone do their part and work together!

Creating for Kids video set at Missouri Star Quilt Co.

There is SO much that happens behind the scenes in these videos that you don't see! It took four days of recording to make the six videos, and the air conditioner quit working on one of the days! So one of the videos (I won't tell you which one!) was recorded while it was over 85 degrees in the studio!

Fabric letters - a tutorial with Missouri Star Quilt Co.

This is the first time I've done anything like this, and I'm very happy with how the videos turned out! (Kudos to the team!!) It's quite intimidating to know your very first ever video tutorials are going to be put on a YouTube channel with over 750,000 subscribers!

Creating for Kids - Nursery items to sew with Missouri Star

Most of the projects are sewn with the Dream collection by Kristy Lea of Quiet Play for Riley Blake Designs. There are some Kona solids in the mix too!

Creating for Kids video set at Missouri Star Quilt Co.

I tried to sneak in a few pi symbols in the videos, so that adds a bit of an "I spy" element as you watch!

MSQC Kids fabric letters

Be sure to check out all the videos! We're hoping to add to the series in a few months, so let me know what you'd like to sew for the kids in your life! There just might be a tutorial on it next time!

If you make anything from the videos, use the hashtag #MSQCkids on social media so we can see it!
