Retreat Sewing

Thursday, August 3, 2017

This past weekend, I was able to sew all day and night at a quilt retreat! Have you ever been to a quilt retreat? They are great for being productive, but they are also so wonderful for your mental health!

The retreat I went to was the same one I went to back in February - the Sew Cozy Quillt Lodge in Wakefield, KS (read about my first visit here). You can see more about this retreat location on their website and Facebook page.

A few people that came in February couldn't come this time, so we had a few new faces - including my best quilty friend, Heather, who came all the way from Texas! We haven't seen each other in over two years - and about ten years before that! (Remember the Round Robin quilts we made together last year??) I can't tell you how much I enjoyed spending the weekend together!

I also got to meet Sarah Nunes of Berry Barn Designs in person! She was able to sew with us on Saturday! I love how the internet (including Instagram) has led me to some really wonderful friends!

This time, several people decided to exchange friendship blocks. We each picked our own fabrics, so they are all quite different! The goal is that each person will sew them into a quilt before the next retreat!

We also had sew and tell time! Everybody brought what they had made since the last retreat so we could celebrate finishes and progress. Definitely worth doing again! (Several secret quilts were shared, so no photos of those!)

We also had a door prize drawing (everyone's a winner!). Look what I got!

It's always fascinating to see the variety of what everyone works on at the retreat! This isn't everything either!

Heather is making a scrappy temperature quilt! It's based on the daily high temperatures from where she lives in Texas!

I finished my Christmas QAL Block 1 while there. (Are you joining us for that??)

And I also made a throw quilt! Everything but the binding! I even got it all quilted after this picture was taken! More on this quilt later in the month! (Hint: It's in Christa Watson's new book!)

I absolutely love getting together with friends to sew! I'm going to have to make a habit of it!

  1. Looks like so much fun ... I wish I can go on a retreat, but alas, kiddos. Oh, I love that throw quilt you made. The colors are great! I feel like I must make one now. But I have *so* many things on my queue already.

  4. I love my quilting retreats, but am jealous of such a wonderful facility. We are a little crowded at ours but love the weekend! How nice that your quilty friend came from TX. Enjoyed seeing the variety of quilts and what others were working on.

  7. This looks like a lot of fun. No pressure. Do you take your own machine or are they provided?

  8. Just stuck a poster up in my sewing room "Sewing Mends the Soul" and you look like a whole load of happy souls! As a beginner, can you tell me what you are pinning the quilts to on the wall? I find it difficult to use the floor for cutting out/piecing together big projects (i.e. curtains) - knees not up to it nowadays! and something like that on the wall would be ideal.
