A few months ago, Pat Sloan emailed me asking if I'd like to join her social media tour for her new Morrison Park fabric collection. Of course I immediately said YES! Fast forward to today, and it's my turn to share my Exploding Heart quilt!
This post contains affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
If you're new here, hello! I'm Laura! I design quilt patterns, and I'm a self-proclaimed deal hunter! Be sure to join the popular Quilting & Sewing Deals Facebook group where I post sales, deals, and coupon codes from all around the web!
The Morrison Park collection is Pat's newest fabric line from Benartex. There are 21 different prints in the collection including lots of reds/pinks and blues. My personal favorite print is the darkest blue floral! All the heart eyes! (Be sure to read until the end to enter to win the giveaway!)
I initially planned to make a completely different quilt, but after seeing the fabrics in person, I knew I just had to make an Exploding Heart quilt! I chose Superior Solids Sky for the background fabric and Superior Solids Tomato Red for the binding.
The pattern includes directions for both traditional cutting/sewing as well as for using an AccuQuilt cutter. I LOVE my AccuQuilt, and this time my husband jumped in to help too!
He actually cut ALL of the pieces for the whole quilt! He's a keeper!
I did all the piecing with 50wt Aurifil #2021 White on my Juki TL-2010Q. It sews FAST, and I had the whole top pieced after a day of sewing.
I loaded the top on the longarm with Warm & Natural batting (I always have a bolt of it on hand!) and that lovely dark blue floral print from the Morrison Park collection for the backing!
I really like using Aurifil 40wt in my longarm, and this soft pink was a perfect choice. (#2410 Pale Pink)
I quilted a large meander all over the quilt - the same way I quilted the first Exploding Heart quilt! It's a quick and easy design to free motion, and I use a lot!
I even remembered to add one of my new labels from EverEmblem when machine stitching the binding! (Mine are 2" satin labels. Use the code SLICEOFPI to get 10% off your order!) (Machine binding tutorial here.)
I just love all the bright colors in this quilt! You can't help but smile when you see it!
And the red binding is such a fun pop of color!
You can see examples of the quilt in many different fabrics on THIS POST.
I loved sewing with Pat's fabrics! Be sure to look for them at your local quilt shop! (Or get them online!)

Currently I’m not sewing much, having hurt my lower back on Sunday, and can’t sit or stand for very long.
