In my quest to blog about all the quilts I've made, I'm throwing it back to a Dino Roar quilt I finished in 2023 but never shared here! I made the quilt for Riley Blake Designs, and it appeared on their blog in December 2023!

If you're new here, hello! I'm Laura! I design quilt patterns, and I'm a self-proclaimed deal hunter! Be sure to join the popular Quilting & Sewing Deals Facebook group where I post sales, deals, and coupon codes from all around the web!
The quilt started with a fat quarter bundle of fabrics from the Cretaceous fabric collection designed by Amanda Niederhauser for Riley Blake Designs. It's a great mix of blues, browns, and greens, with dinosaur prints!
The dinosaur themed fabrics were perfect for the Dino Roar pattern!
It starts with raw-edge applique dinosaurs, and I made enough for the baby-sized quilt in the pattern.
Then prairie points are added before the dinosaurs are stitched to the background fabric.
I use a straight stitch about 1/8" in from the raw edge when sewing down the applique, but other techniques like zig zag stitches would work too.
I've made this pattern several times, and I love seeing it in different fabrics! (Of course I haven't blogged all of them yet, but you can see one other version HERE.)
For this version, I left the jumbo prairie points in the border just as they are so that they flap and move easily. In other versions, I use my walking foot to sew a little triangle on top of them so they stay against the border instead of moving back and forth. No right or wrong way!
I quilted it with a jumbo meander on my longarm so that I could go around the dinosaurs. I switched thread colors between the light background and dark border so the quilting blends in instead of standing out.
The dinosaurs are the star of the show!
When I first designed this quilt, my oldest son said, "Mom, you do know that not all of the dinosaurs had spikes." And I replied, "the cute ones did!" 😉
As usual, I machine sewed on the binding and sewed one of my quilt labels while sewing the victory lap.
You can really see how those jumbo prairie points in the border can move freely in this photo!
Such a fun finish - and I've finally added it to the blog!
Now it's your turn! What have you finished lately? Link up a blog post, Facebook post or Instagram post to the TGIFF linky party so we can celebrate with you! (And please consider signing up to host TGIFF on your blog! We'd love to send some new friends to your blog!)

I bet children love the dinosaur quilt! Happy stitching!
