The crayons quilt block uses simple paper piecing, traditional piecing, and raw-edge applique.
I love the look of the colorful rainbow version made with solids, but any color palette would look great!
This crayon block would be a fantastic addition to a school-themed quilt, but you could also make several crayon blocks to make a long row of crayons. Or how about using them as a border around a panel?! Or use it on the side of a tote bag for a teacher!
I decided to use a mix of solids from my stash to make mine.
I'm always so giddy when I have the perfect Aurifil threads to match!
This is such a fun block!
You could even embroidery color names or kids' names on the crayons!
I see a teacher tote bag in my future!
Ready to make your own??
I can't wait to see your crayon blocks!

ReplyDeleteHi. I love this block but I need help with the paper piecing part for the top of the crayon. Is there a way I can get the instructions on how to do this part? Thank you
ReplyDeleteHi, Colleen! I don't have a tutorial for that (yet!), but you might find some helpful video tutorials on YouTube. A quick search showed this one for flying geese, and it might be helpful for this block too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrCGC7xNDhs
