It's a new month, so that means it's time for a new Quilt Block Mania quilt block! This month's theme was "graduation," and my block is great for celebrating!

The Party Banner quilt block uses bias tape applique and prairie points! Some of my favorite quilt techniques!

In fact, if you love bias tape applique and prairie points, I have several patterns in my Etsy shop just for you! I have three patterns that use bias tape: High Tide, Finial, and Moonrise. And my Pineapple Twist pattern uses prairie points! Get those patterns HERE!

I even have a quilt pattern for a fun confetti quilt! We use it as a birthday quilt in our house, but it would be great for a photo backdrop for a graduation or anniversary celebration too! Get the Party Pop pattern HERE! The Laying Tracks pattern is another popular pattern for graduation quilts. It uses just two main colors, making it easy to make in school colors! Shop your stash for some scraps that would make a fun Party Banner block! I made my sample using red, white, and blue, but your local school colors would be great if making it for graduation! I think just about any fabric would be cute as a tiny fabric bunting!

Red, white, and blue fabrics for a fabric bunting quilt block

For my sample block, I chose solid white for the background (because I always have a bolt of it on hand!), solid navy for the string of the bunting, and a red and blue print from my stash.

I used a 1/4" bias tape maker to make the bias tape and 50wt Aurifil #2784 to applique it onto the block.

If you haven't made prairie points before, they're super easy! Just fold on the diagonal twice and press! (I used my Oliso mini iron!)

The block went together quickly! I love how the block doesn't have to be exactly the same every time, and it will still look great!

This would be a fun block to make into a placemat for birthday celebrations or a festive table runner!
