Welcome to my stop on the Sew Good Blog Hop! The Sew Good collection was designed by Deborah Fisher of Fish Museum + Circus. She makes the cutest ceramic pin cushions - and now she has designed a sewing themed fabric collection!

Button quilt with raw edge applique

Windham Fabrics sent me a fat quarter bundle of the collection to play with, and I made a fun button quilt!

There are 24 prints in the collection. Some have buttons, others pins, others scissors, and there are even some with cute strawberries on them! The collection will be shipping to stores later this month, or you can preorder from Deborah's website HERE.

Sew Good fabric collection by Fish Museum and Circus for Windham Fabrics

A couple weeks ago, I shared a pattern for a free button block (get that one HERE). I loved the idea of making a button quilt with this new collection, but I wanted bigger buttons and something that would be even faster to make. Pinterest led me to a quilt designed by Katy Jones in a 2013 issue of Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine (pictured on this blog). The magazine is out of print and Katy no longer has any social media accounts. So I used the images from that quilt as inspiration to make my own.

Pressing Heat-n-Bond Lite to fabric

I started by pressing a 10" square of Heat-n-Bond Lite to the wrong side of 20 of the prints. Then I used my Olfa rotary circle cutter to cut a circle from each one using the largest setting. It made circles that were about 8 1/2" across. (Heat-n-Bond Lite leaves the fabric a bit stiff, which is great for a wall hanging. If you want it to be soft like for a baby quilt or quilt for snuggles, then you might try Mistyfuse.)

Using an Olfa circle rotary cutter to cut circles

Then I adjusted the rotary cutter to cut circles at the smallest setting to cut two small circles in the center of each circle to make jumbo buttons!

Next, I pressed each one in the center of a 10" square of solid fabric. The color is Night Sky which looks navy, but has a hint of purple too. (I used my Oliso mini iron and wool pressing mat.)

Next I used coordinating Aurifil 50wt thread from my stash to stitch about 1/8" in from the raw edge of each one. I used a straight stitch and stitched around the large circle and the two holes.

I stitched the squares together and pin basted with Warm & Natural batting and a fun lime polka dot print from my stash. (Sorry for the bad lighting in my dining room!)

I did a medium-sized meander on my domestic Juki machine using Aurifil 50wt thread Dark Navy #2784.

Then for a fun scrappy binding! I cut strips about 9" long and 2 1/4" wide from the fat quarters and sewed them together to get one long piece.

I machine sewed it on (tutorial HERE).

And remembered to add my satin quilt label into the binding! You can see the fun color of the backing fabric here too!

Isn't it such a fun quilt?!

It's colorful, it's bold, and it was quick to make! All my favorite things about quilts!
