Electric Quilt just released a new Kaleidoscope quilt block collection!
This is an add-on software to EQ8, and it includes over 500 different kaleidoscope quilt blocks!
It was very easy to download the software, and I was able to start playing with the designs immediately.
You can choose any of the pre-designed blocks in the software, then change up the colors and fabrics. It's very fast and easy!
This is the original block that I started with in the software. And the next few images are how I changed it.
First I made it all pink.
Then threw in some black and liked where it was going.
I did the reverse of the pink and black and loved it more!
Then I swapped out the pink for white and really liked the graphic nature of it.
But then changed it so some wedges had a white diamond in the center, and the others had a black diamond in the center. I loved this one!
This called for making it with real fabric! From the EQ8 program, it's just a couple clicks to print the paper-piecing templates for the block.
I chose to make an 18" block, which meant that the black and white strips were just about 1/2" wide. I cut 1" strips from yardage, and it didn't take long to make all eight blocks!
Trimming the blocks to size really made it look cool!
I didn't have any troubles with the templates or pattern at all! It worked perfectly!
The fabric version turned out just like the digital version in the EQ8 software!
I didn't yet remove the paper from the back, as I haven't decided what to do with the block.
Should I quilt it and bind it like a mini quilt? Add an envelope back for a pillow? Make more blocks for a throw quilt?
What would you make with it??
If you already have the Electric Quilt software, grab the Kaleidoscope Two collection of blocks to add to your block library! Then you, too, can play and experiment!
