The fabric is from an Island Batik (now Lumin Fabrics) collection called FALL Flair, but I chose the WINTER blues to make a SPRING themed table runner! All that's missing is the SUMMER weather!
Fall Flair is a signature fabric collection from Island Batik for Jennifer Fulton of Inquiring Quilter. When Jennifer contacted me about participating in the blog hop, I chose the three dark blue fabrics from the collection. There are several other fabrics that match the sunset in the picture above and fall more into the "rust" colorway.
Even though the fabric is fall-themed, I want to think about spring! I put a small sheet of Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 fusible on the back of each blue fabric, cut out an egg shape, then pressed them onto the lighter background fabric.
I added a scrap of 80/20 batting and a backing fabric, then I just used my walking foot to quilt over the top of them! You're correct, I did not sew around the edges of the eggs! Call the quilt police!
I finished the table runner by machine sewing on the binding (tutorial here), and of course adding one of my quilt labels!
The back was a batik scrap I had in my stash, and it looks like tie-dye!
I think the dark blue fabrics look like indigo dyed eggs!
It's technically still winter on the calendar, but I'm ready for spring and Easter!
I decided to write up a FREE pattern with the template for the egg shape that I used so you can make a quick Easter table runner too!
Would you choose indigo dyed eggs? Or pastel colored eggs?

The best part of a fabric blog hop is seeing what all the other bloggers made with the same fabric! Hop to each of the other blogs for a peek!

Pretty reversible table runner.
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea! They do look like Easter eggs dyed with indigo. So nice of you to offer the pattern for free. Thank you for joining the hop! This has been quite the celebration for my new collection Fall Flair. And in case any one out there is wondering, batiks are the best fabric to use with raw edge fusible applique because batiks rarely ravel--which means as Laura did, you can skip the edge finishing if you want. I typically do edge finish, but with a straight stitch which is fast and easy. Enjoy the pattern everyone!
ReplyDeleteI love your exploding heart quilt. I’m still working on finishing the mini heart pattern. I want to do the full size one. But I think my next project will be this table runner. Thank you!
