This year, I decided to make a fun and usable quilt! My boys were recently playing Twister, and I noticed that the mat was getting quite well-used.

While watching them play, I did a bit of quilt math and decided I could make a quilted version!

I used Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 on the back of red, yellow, blue, and green fabrics to match our spinner, then cut out circles with my Olfa Circle Rotary Cutter. (I've noticed the new version of the game uses brighter colors instead of the more traditional ones, so match the fabrics to the spinner if you decide to make your own!)

I used the straight stitch on my sewing machine to sew each circle to a white rectangle, and I stitched about 1/8" inside the raw edge of each circle with matching Aurifil 50wt thread.

I loaded the quilt top on my longarm with a polka dot backing from Connecting Threads and Hobbs 80/20 bleached batting. I used my SewTite Magnums to load the backing on the longarm. I used white thread to do 1" straight line quilting.
A fun quilt like this could only get one type of binding - scrappy!
I used all four colors, and it turned out so well!
I added a label when sewing on the binding, then it was ready to use!

My boys were very excited for game night to try it out!
A few spins later, and the quilt got the approval from the boys!
This Pi Day quilt is going to get lots of use in the years to come!
Now to make a few circle foods - and pie - to celebrate!
