You might have seen the Puppy Kisses quilts I've made before (HERE and HERE), but they were both made with blue and green fabrics. I wanted to make another one in pinks and purples, so today is the day for that quilt!

This is such a fun pattern to make! The faces are raw-edge applique, and the ears are 3-D so they flop around! (Pattern available HERE.)
The nine-patch blocks are made with pink and purple fabrics all from my stash, and most left over from other projects. The ears are a mix of different types of minky and faux fur including Sherpa so they all have different textures.
I snapped this photo while I was doing the raw-edge applique of the faces. Don't the dogs look naked without their ears??
I use Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 when I do raw-edge applique. Once pressed, I use a straight stitch and stitch about 1/8" inside the edge of the fabric to sew the pieces to the background fabric. The dog faces each have nine pieces, but I put one color of thread into my machine then stitch around the same piece on all the blocks before switching thread to do the next piece.
Ears make them look so much better!
Once the top was sewn together, I loaded the quilt onto the longarm with my SewTite Magnums. I used an 80/20 batting and a light pink thread for the quilting. Up close, you can see the thread, but from about 6' away, the thread just blends in!
I'm so thrilled to have a pink/purple quilt to match the pink/purple pillow I made when writing the pattern!
I wish I had snapped more photos while making the quilt, but sometimes I just get into the zone and forget to do it!
Both the pattern cover quilt and this one go with me when I do trunk shows. The dogs get lots of oohs and awes, and yes, I let people pet them too!
How about you? Do you like the blue/green version or the pink/purple version better?
