One of my newest patterns is for Sliced - a watermelon quilt!

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Moda to make the mini version (30" square) of my pattern in Moda Bella solids for their Quilt Market booth! Wait, what??? Moda contacted me?? And asked me to make a quilt for them?? For Quilt Market?? Pinch me! I must be dreaming!!

Then a couple days later, I received a box of fabric in the mail - sealed with Moda tape!! It wasn't a dream!

Of course there was a fast-approaching deadline, so I was glad that the quilt is a quick one to make!

I really wanted to quilt the same loops design on this one that I did on my large 60" version, but without a longarm, I was afraid it wouldn't look as professional as I really wanted for this quilt.

So after much indecision, I finally settled on diagonal straight line quilting. I just eyeballed the distance between each line, but I'm guessing it's 1/2". I started in the middle and worked my way out. I always quilt this way, so the excess fabric works it's way to the corner and can be smoothed out. It really helps eliminate puckers and keeps the top looking its best.

And I didn't use white thread! The whole thing was pieced and quilted with Aurifil 2455 - Medium Carmine Red! I feel like such a rebel!

The backing fabric that Moda sent me has a really neat texture. It's a lime green, but is a woven fabric. Very hard to capture in a photo.

I took some quick photos of it on the porch (it was raining, so no beauty shots) and printed up a label for the back. (Obviously these photos were taken after dark with terrible lighting! Ugh!)

I shipped the quilt off this morning! The next time I'll see it will be when it's hanging in the Moda booth at Quilt Market in St. Louis next month! Then it will be off on it's own adventures with Moda. Supposedly it will be in their showroom. Sounds so formal and impressive!
