I Wish You a Merry QAL - Block 6

We're halfway through the "I Wish You a Merry QAL!"

Block 6 is this angel block designed by Sandra Healy of Sandra Healy Designs. You can find the tutorial and pattern for the block on her blog here.

I Wish You a Merry Quilt A-Long

For my quilt, I'm using a limited color palette of Kona Breakers, Lipstick, and Cactus (with accents of Black and Chocolate in some blocks). I am also using a silver lamé fabric as an accent too. My background fabric is Moda Bella 98 White. I struggled to decide how to use my color scheme for this block. I mean, using red for the skin seemed a little devilish, but green would make her look queasy. And whatever I chose for the skin would effect every other color in the block!

Once settled on my colors, I pieced the background of the block then used Heat-N-Bond Lite to adhere the angel to the background.

I used matching 50 wt Aurifil thread to stitch down each piece (Shining Green #5017, Red #2250, and White #2024). I used a straight stitch just inside the raw edges of each shape.

The block finished exactly 12 1/2", so no need to trim! I'm still undecided about the face. I'm definitely leaning towards adding the French knots for eyes, but I'm going to percolate on that for a bit to decide for sure. And I might change her hair to brown too. I'll wait to see how all the blocks look together in the end before I decide that.

I'm so glad I was able to use all three of the main colors of my palette in this block! Six blocks down, and only six more to go!

I there are a number of the quilter's quilting along on Facebook who are also using a limited palette. Reading how you struggled with the color choices for this block was interesting and informative.
