FREE Moving Forward Quilt Block - Designer Shop Hop

Monday, July 13, 2020

Today is my day on the Quilt Designer's Shop Hop! Five days. Ten designers. Ten quilt blocks.

If you're new here, hello! I'm Laura! I design quilt patterns, and I'm a self-proclaimed deal hunter! Be sure to join the popular Quilting & Sewing Deals Facebook group where I post sales, deals, and coupon codes from all around the web!

Business during the pandemic has been different, and many designers have had to pivot and shift to keep moving forward. This hop represents this idea: moving forward, separate but working together.

Each day for five days, two designers are giving patterns for 12" blocks. Set a reminder to go and download the patterns each day, as not all of the blocks will be free after the hop ends!

July 13 - Tammy Silvers at Tamarinis
July 13 - Laura Piland at Slice of Pi Quilts <--- That's me!
July 14 - Sherry Shish at Powered by Quilting
July 14 - Amy Friend at During Quiet Time
July 15 - Kate Colleran at Seams Like a Dream
July 15 - Becky Jorgensen at Patchwork Posse
July 16 - Leanne Parsons at Devoted Quilter
July 16 - Patti Carey at Patti's Patchwork
July 17 - Swan Sheridan at Swan Amity
July 17 - Cherry Guidry at Cherry Blossoms Quilting

I've designed this Moving Forward quilt block to share with you! The colored parts of the block are apart, but all point forward. Like geese flying in a V formation, we can all move forward when flying together!

I used EQ8 to see how the block would look with some different colors.

I decided to sew my block using three shades of blue from my stash to get an ombre effect.

Then I used EQ8 to see what a whole quilt of the blocks would look like. I LOVE this one!

And if you want a sneak peek of all the blocks from the hop....

Ta-da!!

Moving Forward quilt layout using ten different quilt blocks

These are all ten blocks from the hop! I've used a bright color palette of aqua (of course!), pink, lime, fuschia, and navy. I arranged the quilt with four blocks across and four blocks down which would make a 48" x 48" lap quilt. Solid 12 1/2" squares are used to create negative space. I think some jumbo solid borders would be great for making the quilt larger too!

Hop to the other designers' blogs to get their patterns and see what colors they picked!
