If you're new here, hello! I'm Laura! I design quilt patterns, and I'm a self-proclaimed deal hunter! Be sure to join the popular Quilting & Sewing Deals Facebook group where I post sales, deals, and coupon codes from all around the web!
For all of my QAL By the Sea blocks, I'm using an ombre stack of Kona solids and coordinating Aurifil 50wt thread. You can read more about those on this post.
The Sunset Beach block was perfect for using all six of my ombre aqua fabrics!
The block uses traditional piecing as well as raw-edge applique. It goes together quickly and has a dramatic look!
When deciding which colors to use, I started by choosing my darkest color for the tree, sail boat, and gull, and my lightest color for the sun. Then I used the remaining colors for the sunset and ocean.
I used Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 for my appliques and used Aurifil 50wt #4182 and #5007 to stitch them down. I used Aurifil 50wt #2605 to piece the background strips, mostly because that was the color already in my machine!
The two blocks that didn't get the Kona White really stand out to me in this photo! There are still two weeks left, so hopefully I get some time this week to redo those!
