Welcome to my stop on the Plum Pudding Blog Tour! My friend Sherry from Powered by Quilting is celebrating her second signature fabric collection from Island Batik, and I'm excited to be a part of the blog tour!

The Plum Pudding collection from Island Batik is so gorgeous! I know I say that with every batik collection from them, but it's true! If you haven't sewn with their fabric before, you must make a point to try it! The fabrics have such wonderful saturated colors, the fabrics don't have a right or a wrong side, and they don't fray! So many things to love!

This collection is a mix of purples and neutrals. So many heart eyes! The collection is shipping to stores now. I did find some HERE

Some of the fabrics have snowflakes, so I knew the collection would be perfect for making a Flurry quilt! The pattern is available as a PDF or as a professionally printed booklet that's mailed to you.

The pattern begins by arranging the fabrics from darkest to lightest. I use Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 for this pattern because I love that it makes the pieces sticky so you can move and rearrange them as much as you want before ironing! (Here's my Oliso mini iron!) The pattern includes directions for using the Olfa Circle Rotary Cutter. It makes such quick work of cutting the circles!

This time, I also used my AccuQuilt to cut the smallest circles using this die. It is SO fast and easy!!

Once all the circles were cut, it was time for the fun part!

Circles for Flurry quilt

The background is Island Batik's solid white. It is made with the same high quality fabric as their batiks, and (surprise, surprise) I love it!

I loaded the top on my longarm (a 1989 Gammill) with a light gray circles wide backing fabric that I bought a bolt of awhile back. I like to keep a neutral bolt of backing fabric on hand so I don't have to worry about not having a back when I'm ready to quilt. I did notice my bolt is running low though, so I'll be watching for a great deal to get some more! I used Warm & Natural batting, though I would have preferred Warm & White. Maybe I should get a bolt of that too?

I used Aurifil Light Lilac 40wt #2510 to quilt a medium-sized meander all over the quilt. I made sure to quilt on top of every circle so at least one stitching line will hold the circles on in case they ever come loose. The 40wt held up really great going through all the layers of fusible too!

I cut 2 1/4" strips from one of the fabrics from the collection to make the binding, and had *just* enough to make it all the way around! (Machine binding tutorial HERE.)

I LOVE how this Flurry quilt turned out! All the heart eyes!!

I've made this quilt a few other times before too. You can see those HERE, HERE, and HERE!

  1. Well done. It's a great collection of fabrics. I am starting to see the fun in buying bolts of stuff...I now have a few Kona colours, and I just ordered my first roll of batting. ☺

  2. This is another gorgeous version of such a beautiful quilt. Gotta love that die for this job! Yes, I am almost ready to order a bolt of batting....I don't have a lot of room, but I think I may find a way to make it live under the machine!
