Packing my Rifle Paper Suitcases!

Monday, June 20, 2022

As soon as I learned that Rifle Paper Co. had released a travel-themed fabric collection, I immediately went to their website and ordered a fat quarter bundle! I knew it would be perfect for making a Suitcases quilt

I mean, how gorgeous is that bundle?! The prints feature iconic places from around the world (and a few floral fabrics too). It was definitely meant to be a Suitcases quilt! (Pattern here!)

I ordered it as soon as I saw it, then I started sewing it as soon as it arrived!

I love when I get to use my sewing machine laser! It saves so much time not having to draw all the lines!

I was really hoping to be able to use my vintage trunk for some quilt photos, but it just wasn't as good of a photo prop as I had imagined!

But I did make my husband stand in the middle of a road to get a good photo of the quilt top!

I used white thread in my longarm to quilt a medium sized meander on the quilt. It's my go-to pick as I can quilt it quickly without too much thinking.

This quilt goes together really quickly, and it's great for fabrics that remind you of your travels!

I mean, how great is this tiny emu in one of the Rifle Paper Co. prints?? It reminds me of my trip to California when I fed ostriches with my friend. It was hilarious, and a memory I'll never forget!

I grabbed an 1/8" navy and white striped fabric from my stash for the binding. It looks very cool, but it was quite dizzying to look at while cutting into strips!

Of course I machine sewed it on! (Tutorial here.)

I used the same Aurifil 50wt thread to sew it on that I used for all the piecing.

I remembered to sew in one of my satin quilt labels too!

Then we headed to the local park for photos with the town caboose!

The pictures don't really show off how hot it was nor how many wasps have decided that the train caboose makes a great home.

It was still a fun place to take quilt photos though!

Can't you just imagine taking a Suitcases quilt on your next trip??

Or you could pick up fabrics while you're vacationing and then come home and make a quilt to remember all the places you went!

I'd be happy to travel with my Rifle Paper Co. suitcases anywhere in the world!

  1. As an avid traveler (anything to not have to clean my house!) I am so in love with this! I was also thinking of kids - one with trains, planes, rocket ships, sled dogs....the empty space in the handle might be a good place to put the date you went there too! Thanks!
