A Baby Quilt for Emma

Thursday, December 31, 2020

Well over a year ago, I won a fat quarter bundle of Rifle Paper Co.'s Meadow collection. I knew my sister-in-law loves all things Rifle Paper, so when she announced she was having a baby girl, I knew it was the perfect use for the bundle!

I won the bundle from Sojo Fabric. They often have giveaways on their Instagram account, and I was thrilled to win a whole fat quarter bundle of the Meadow collection!!

And like most things in 2020, this quilt took a little detour. In March, I started making face masks, and I knew my sister-in-law would love one made from these fabrics. Which led to a LOT of Rifle Paper Co. face masks! (I've made about 2,000 face masks now! You can see which ones I have available in my Etsy shop!)

Then the 4-H quilting classes I lead switched to virtual only. I used the leftovers of this bundle from mask-making and cut them into squares. I used the squares to sew via Facebook Live videos to teach ten young kids how to quilt.

In July, I took the quilt top with me to a quilting retreat. I sandwiched it with a scrap of Warm & Natural batting and some very vintage fabric for the back. I used my walking foot on my Juki TL-2010Q to quilt straight lines about 1/4" on either side of all the seams using Aurifil 50wt #2425 Bright Pink.

I used the leftovers of one of the fat quarters for the binding. (Tutorial here.) The quilt is only about 27" square, so it was a quick finish to do at the quilt retreat!

I even added one of my labels! (I got them here!)

My sister-in-law had her baby in November, but we haven't gotten to meet her yet (darn, COVID!).

Until now.

We get to meet baby Emma tomorrow, so I wanted to share this 2020 finish with you before the end of the year.

And maybe tomorrow, I'll have a cute baby to share with the quilt too!

  1. Love the quilt! Just goes to show you don't need "soft baby colors" to make a beautiful, sure to be loved quilt. Brilliant.
