A friend of mine (that's a music teacher) recently had a baby boy. When hunting for inspiration in my stash, I found this old music print with aqua colored blue birds on it. I knew it was just the starting point I needed!

The music print has been in my stash at least 10 years. The selvage says it's from the collection Girly Girl by Dana Brooks for Henry Glass. I wanted to use the print as the backing, so I picked five solid blues from aqua to navy for the front.
I cut one 2 1/2" strip from each of the solid blues, and several strips from solid white. Then I sewed them alternating between blue and white
The result is an ombre stripe quilt that appears quite modern, but the inspiration of the five stripes are the five lines of the music staff.
I made the quilt sandwich with Warm & White batting then stitched in the ditch of the stripes with my walking foot with White 50wt Aurifil thread.
Then I chose a navy and white striped fabric for the binding. Because striped binding is always the right answer!
I am so thrilled with how this one turned out! The striped binding really is such a fun finished touch! (Yes, I did remember to sew in one of my satin quilt labels!)
The quilt finished about 34" x 40" since I used the one-yard cut of fabric for the backing. It's really a perfect baby quilt size!
The quilt took me about 2 hours to make. Seriously! To make the whole thing!
