Lucky Squares - A FREE Quilt Block Pattern!

Tuesday, February 2, 2021

This month's Quilt Block Mania theme is "Lucky Charms!" Of course the first thing I thought of was the cereal with the same name! I decided to go with the most obvious choice for my block - a four-leaf clover!

The Lucky Squares quilt block uses traditional piecing as well as raw-edge applique.

It's a great block for using some of your green fabric scraps, and three of the blocks would make a quick and easy St. Patrick's Day table runner! I think it's a good one for a 4-H quilt too!

For my sample block, I chose a few pastel colored Kona solids from my stash for the background fabrics (hello, Lucky Charms marshmallows!) and a lime green for the clover.

I used Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 and Aurifil 50wt #1147 Light Leaf Green for all the piecing and applique.

Do you have a light pad? They are pretty inexpensive, but they are great for tracing shapes for applique! I used it under my pieced block so I could line up the applique clover too! Then I used my Oliso mini iron and wool pressing mat to press it into place!

Once pieced and pressed, I stitched 1/8" inside the raw edges of the clover.

I love how the block turned out! Now I want to make an all green one!
