Sherry of Powered by Quilting has another signature line from Island Batik releasing, and I couldn't wait to sew with it! The collection is called Calm Lagoon, and I knew it would be perfect for a High Tide quilt!

The Calm Lagoon collection is a mix of blue and green batiks. (You can find some HERE!) They matched perfectly with Aurifil 50wt threads #2810 Turquoise and #5017 Shining Green.
Did you know Island Batik makes solid fabrics too?!? They are amazing. They have a higher thread count than other brands of solids, meaning they don't fray much at all. They really are wonderful to sew with! I got their lime green solid to use for the bias tape in the High Tide quilt. And after making all the bias tape, I had to have some fun with googly eyes!
The High Tide quilt is a fantastic pattern if you want to try bias tape applique. There is NO curved piecing! AND it's quilt-as-you-go! It's a clever, quick, and easy quilt to make! (Get the pattern HERE!)
Bias tape applique is pure magic to me. A little heat from the iron and the bias tape curves into any shape you want! The Oliso mini iron is perfect for this job!
After pressing, I just put a few pins in it to roughly hold it in place, then take it to the sewing machine. The heat gives the bias tape a memory so it will remember where you want it to go!
A quick sew down both sides of the bias tape, and it's ready for the next one!
I machine sewed the binding on like usual. (Tutorial for that HERE.)
I even remembered to sew in one of my quilt labels!
In the photo above, you can see how sewing down the bias tape quilted it too!
This is such a great pattern for fabric that you don't want to cut up into tiny pieces too! (I *know* I'm not the only one who has a collection of fabric like that!)
We even had a calm and sunny day at our local lake so I could get some great photos of it! Isn't the reflection amazing?!
