For all of my QAL By the Sea blocks, I used an ombre stack of Kona solids and coordinating Aurifil 50wt thread. You can read more about those in this post.

The Quilted Cliffs Lighthouse block gave me a chance to use all of my fabrics!

The block is traditionally pieced, and goes together quickly once all the pieces are cut.

I even got to use my sewing machine laser! (If you don't have one, you need one! I tell more about it on this post!)

Using a sewing machine laser

I really debated about adding the embroidered railing on the lighthouse. I didn't add the embroidery on the sailboat block, so I thought I might leave it off this one too. I decided to just try adding the longest lines to see how it looked using 12wt Aurifil thread in Jade #4093.

I kept matching 50wt in the bobbin and just used the 12wt in the top. It worked great! I might still add more, but I'm going to wait and see how I like it after the top is sewn together.

And I remembered to use the right white this time!

  2. Very modern looking...both the lighthouse and the quilt as a whole. Would love some information on the light on the front of your sewing machine. I'm vision challenged.

    1. I really love my sewing machine laser! I don't have to draw lines for HSTs or stitch-n-flip corners! This post has more information about it: https://www.sliceofpiquilts.com/2019/07/adding-laser-to-any-sewing-machine.html.
