If you're new here, hello! I'm Laura! I design quilt patterns, and I'm a self-proclaimed deal hunter! Be sure to join the popular Quilting & Sewing Deals Facebook group where I post sales, deals, and coupon codes from all around the web!

Do you remember the turtle block from the last quilt along? (This one!) This turtle block was designed by the same designer!

I dug through my stash for all the colors I might use. I had just one choice for the sand in my stash, but had plenty of greens to choose from! I used Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 for the raw-edge applique, and 50wt Aurifil for all the stitching.

Solid fabrics for my Turtle Beach quilt block

This block allowed me to use my brand new applique pressing mat and sheet! (I got mine with a coupon code from the Quilting & Sewing Deals group! I bought THIS ONE!)

It worked perfectly with my wool pressing mat and Oliso mini iron! I just pressed the pieces together on the mat, then they just peeled off in one whole turtle ready to put on the quilt block!

I used matching 50wt Aurifil thread to stitch down the pieces. I used a straight stitch just inside the raw edge of each piece, backstitching at the end. I used colors Spearmint #2908, Very Dark Grass Green #2890, and Forest Green #4026.

I always love peeking behind the seams!

The stitching added a great texture to each solid piece.

Once the stitching was complete, I used my 12 1/2" square ruler to trim the block to the right size.

I haven't been to any beaches with sea turtles, but I'm thinking that would be a wonderful vacation goal!
