The pattern works great for scraps, and a fat quarter is the perfect size for the back!

Of course I made mine with turquoise and red fabric! They're my favorites! 

I used jumbo ric rac as an accent on the cake layers, but lace or pom poms would be equally fun! (You can get the jumbo ric rac other other supplies for this mini quilt at Missouri Star!)

I used 50wt Aurifil thread for all the piecing, the applique of the flames, and the walking foot quilting. 

There's a scrap piece of 80/20 batting inside the quilt, and I remembered to add one of my     quilt labels when I sewed on the binding. (Binding tutorial here.)

The texture that the walking foot quilting added to this quilt is so good!

I used a light gray thread, so it really shows up on the darker fabrics, but it doesn't bother me. I love the texture!

And that jumbo ric rac was perfect! I can see more embellishments like this in my future!
