Grab your popcorn and sewing machines! It's time for a watch party!

I've been doing some super secret work over the past couple months, and I'm SO excited to share it with you today!! I've teamed up with Missouri Star Quilt Co. to make the Creating for Kids YouTube series!

The first set of six videos launched today, and they're all about sewing projects for the nursery!

In the videos, I show how to make a soft book, fitted crib sheet, cuffed nesting bins, fabric letters, an eight pocket tote bag, and a quilt-as-you-go quilt! The projects are great for those of us who have been sewing for awhile, but I am hopeful that they will be easy enough for anyone to make - even if they've never sewn at all!

The project has been so much fun, and I have learned a LOT!

In my business, I wear all the hats. But at Missouri Star, they have teams of people to help do everything! It was amazing to watch everyone do their part and work together!

There is SO much that happens behind the scenes in these videos that you don't see! It took four days of recording to make the six videos, and the air conditioner quit working on one of the days! So one of the videos (I won't tell you which one!) was recorded while it was over 85 degrees in the studio!

This is the first time I've done anything like this, and I'm very happy with how the videos turned out! (Kudos to the team!!) It's quite intimidating to know your very first ever video tutorials are going to be put on a YouTube channel with over 750,000 subscribers!

Most of the projects are sewn with the Dream collection by Kristy Lea of Quiet Play for Riley Blake Designs. There are some Kona solids in the mix too!

I tried to sneak in a few pi symbols in the videos, so that adds a bit of an "I spy" element as you watch!

Be sure to check out all the videos! We're hoping to add to the series in a few months, so let me know what you'd like to sew for the kids in your life! There just might be a tutorial on it next time!

If you make anything from the videos, use the hashtag #MSQCkids on social media so we can see it!

  1. I don't have children anymore and my Grandchildren are grown. That said I make a lot of I Spy quilts for donation and lots, like 100's of pillowcases to donate to Children's Hospital. Any fresh ideas would be wonderful.

  2. So excited for you! This will be a really fun series. Some ideas for kids: games like memory matching or whatever else you can think of, small bags for kids to carry their own water bottle on walks or hikes. I know you'll have lots of ideas!

  4. Hi Laura and welcome to the MSQC family! I looked on YouTube for an answer but had no luck, so I'd thought I'd try on here. When you're making the letters and numbers video, you use a 'light box' of sorts to trace the patterns. What is this magical tool called and how do I find one? Thanks!
