If you're new here, hello! I'm Laura! I design quilt patterns, and I'm a self-proclaimed deal hunter! Be sure to join the popular Quilting & Sewing Deals Facebook group where I post sales, deals, and coupon codes from all around the web!
It started with the Tilda Hibernation scraps leftover from making this Mini Exploding Heart quilt. A few years ago, I discovered the most adorable miniature mice that come in matchboxes!! My boys were never interested in things like that, so I have been waiting for the right time to get one for my niece!
The brand is Levlovs, and they have so many different mice (and a few other animals) that come in fun boxes. The one I got came with a dress and some bedding, but I couldn't wait to give her an upgrade on that!!
First up: she needed a quilt! I cut 1" squares from the fabric scraps. I decided on a 7 x 10 layout, so needed 70 squares.
The Hibernation collection actually has images of sleeping mice. SO perfect for this!!
I arranged the squares randomly, then sewed them together in rows.
It's crazy how much they "shrink" once you start sewing them together!
Absolutely the cutest sewing project ever!
I pressed the seams before sewing the rows together and took time to try and line up the intersections.
Where is the heart eye emoji?!?!?!
A peek at the back shows that there is more fabric in the back than you can see on the front!
I layered a piece of solid cream fabric and a scrap of 80/20 batting to make a quilt sandwich, then used my walking foot to quilt a few diagonal lines.
The binding looked enormous compared to the quilt! (I still used my usual method though.)
So. absolutely. adorable.
Oh, and I still put one of my labels on the back too! And yes, I counted this as one of my finished quilts for the year!
I couldn't wait to show Miss Mouse her new quilt!
I think she's going to love it!
Next up was a new pillowcase to match her quilt. (Because, of course!)
I used the original pillow for the measurements. Just a quick and easy one. I hemmed the open end, but did not do French seams like I do in normal sized pillowcases.
I think Miss Mouse loves it!!
I really hope my niece loves this as much as I do! I want to make one for myself now!
I'm linking up this finish with TGIFF this week.
You can add a link to a Facebook post, Instagram post, or blog post to share what you've finished lately too!
